It belongs to the hexagonal crystal system. Common crystal forms include hexagonal prisms and hexagonal pyramids, with aquamarine aggregates often appearing as prismatic clusters. The crystals are transparent to translucent, exhibiting a vitreous luster. The refractive index ranges from 1.567 to 1.590, with a birefringence of 0.005 to 0.007. It displays noticeable pleochroism, shifting from blue to blue-green. Aquamarine has a hardness of 7.5, a density of 2.68 to 2.80 g/cm³, a conchoidal fracture, and good toughness. Aquamarine is a silicate containing beryllium and aluminum, collectively known as colored gemstones alongside emeralds, tourmalines, and bixbyites. Its color ranges from sky blue to sea blue or greenish blue. The most prized specimens are those that are clear, flawless, and possess a rich, vibrant blue to light blue hue. The use of aquamarine as the main stone for these earrings was a bold experiment by Ms. Shazhi. She selected a 1.1-carat, pale blue aquamarine as the focal point, creating earrings with a total weight of approximately 2.06 grams.
