Sphinx, a London-based brand founded by S Root in 1948, not only has exquisite workmanship and a wide range of design styles, but its elegant and detailed sculpture decoration makes costume jewelry closer to the visual effect of high-end jewelry. Because of its exquisite quality, Sphinx has received OEM orders from many big brands, including Kenneth Jay Lane (KJL), Butler & Wilson, Saks 5th Ave., Neiman Marcus, and Bloomingdale's.
According to records, from the 1950s to the 1960s, Sphinx even made OEM products for Ciner, Jomaz, and Boucher. Later, it was inevitable to appropriate and fuse some design styles, and even produced design works that were better than the original ones, such as the most famous Sphinx Peacock brooch from Boucher's famous collection of bird designs.
However, the works actually marked with Sphinx and four-digit codes were only issued and circulated from the 1960s to the 1990s. They are rare treasures in the eyes of collectors because Sphinx ceased all operations at the end of the 1990s.
