※ About "The Story of Abandonment"
Asia Jilimpo, Chen Ming-jen, a Taiwanese Hokkien literature author who embodies freedom, confidence, and self-respect, uses pure, colloquial Taiwanese written language to systematically record the indelible historical memories in his mind. Through short, comic-strip-like stories, he vividly recreates the local scenes and humanistic sentiments of rural Taiwan in the old days. The forgotten people (village children, young men, young women, uncles, aunts, marginalized individuals on the fringes of society...), the forgotten events (local legends, Feng Shui, social interactions, human relationships, customs, traditional trades, romance, marriage, love...), the landscapes, the thoughts, emotions, and traditional values are brought back to life, scene by scene, image by image. These literary writings are the authentic face of Taiwan in the 1950s and 60s, and a microcosm of the lives of those in the countryside.
The creation of "The Story of Abandonment" series recreates a vanished era and its altered social and cultural values. More importantly, it simultaneously preserves the mother tongue of that nearly lost time. Through vivid and engaging narratives in the mother tongue, through stories of joy and sorrow, happiness and sadness, bitterness and sweetness that once unfolded in rural Taiwan, it offers future generations of Taiwanese elements for savoring, reminiscing, and reflection.
The publication of "The Story of Abandonment" in both print and audio CD format aims to promote Taiwanese literature in a three-dimensional and diverse manner, allowing listeners and readers to connect with their mother tongue and Taiwanese Hokkien literature in a way that is convenient for them.
