※About "Stories of Abandonment"
Asia Jilimpo, Chen Ming-Ren, a Taiwanese Hokkien literary writer who is free, confident, and self-respecting, uses pure Taiwanese colloquial written language to systematically write down the indelible historical memories in his mind. He uses short, sequential picture-story-like narratives to recreate the local scenes and humanistic sentiments of Taiwan's old rural society. Those forgotten people (village children, village young men, village young women, village uncles, village married women, village marginalized outliers...), those events (local legends, geomancy, interpersonal relationships, human affairs, customs, traditional industries, love dreams, weddings, romance...), those landscapes, those thoughts, feelings, those traditional values, are vividly brought back to life, scene by scene, picture by picture. These literary writings are the original face of Taiwan in the 1950s and 60s, and also a microcosm of the life of people in the Taiwanese countryside.
The "Stories of Abandonment" series recreates that vanished era and those changed social and cultural values. More importantly, it also preserves the mother tongue of that nearly lost era. Through vivid and engaging mother tongue narrative modes, through stories, both sad and happy, mournful and joyful, bittersweet or bitter, that once happened in Taiwan's countryside, it provides Taiwanese people of future generations with elements for savoring, reminiscing, and reflecting.
The publication of "Stories of Abandonment" in both print and CD audiobook format is intended to allow Taiwanese literature to be disseminated in a three-dimensional and diverse form, enabling listeners and readers to connect with their mother tongue and Taiwanese Hokkien literature in any way that is convenient for them.
