Due to the manual nature of the process, the fabric must be cut into shorter lengths to accommodate these intricate steps. Consequently, each piece of Xiangyunsha is as unique as a leaf in a vast forest; no two are alike. Visible handcraftsmanship is evident, with irregular, crackle-like patterns on the fabric surface. The entire sun-drying process for Xiangyunsha is complex, involving stages such as refining the raw silk, soaking in Dioscorea cirrhosa extract, drying, repeating the soaking and drying, boiling the silk, multiple washes and drying cycles of the extract, further boiling and drying, mud application, washing, drying, misting, stretching, and finally warehousing. The sun-drying process alone requires dozens of steps, including three washes, nine boils, and eighteen drying periods. "Cai Liang" (colored silk) is a contemporary modification. The black and brown color has certain limitations in use, leading to the development of various colored silks, including red, purple, and a spectrum of other hues, often with printed patterns. Currently, black is the most widely accepted. Once, black-blue was used, but subsequent creations have been exclusively black. This involves an additional black dyeing process on top of the AB-colored base, creating a double-sided black effect with differing levels of sheen. The river mud-dyed side exhibits a superior luster and texture, while the reverse side has a matte finish. This Xiangyunsha down jacket features a hooded design with a subtle stand-up collar.
