Ammolite is a fossil gemstone, formed when the aragonite (the substance that makes up mother-of-pearl) on the shell surface of ammonites, which lived in the Late Cretaceous period (65 to 135 million years ago), was influenced by minerals and pressure underground over tens of millions of years, creating an iridescent effect. It is truly a natural creation possessing aspects of both a fossil and a gemstone. Each piece has a unique appearance, with colors that shimmer and shift depending on the angle of view.
