Among Celine's most collectible pieces, besides the more widely known "Planet" (golden globe) design, is the Earth golden coin clutch. It's one of my top three favorite Celine clasp designs! The Earth golden coin series was extremely limited, released for only one season. This collection was a commemorative series launched in the 90s due to the introduction of the Euro, and because of its special significance, it's virtually impossible to see a reissue. It holds immense collectible value, and I believe any Celine vintage enthusiast truly needs to own one (I have one myself that I will never sell...). The golden coin series seems less recognized, perhaps because of its scarcity in circulation. Compared to the "Planet" design, it offers a more understated yet luxurious feel. Although it's a flat design, upon closer inspection of the clasp, you'll be amazed by the incredibly intricate, embossed globe motif on the clasp itself! Overall, it lacks the overt boldness of the "Planet" design, which is instantly recognizable by its spherical shape. The golden coin, however, is something only a true Celine vintage aficionado would identify. It's akin to Cartier's sapphire series, where only genuine vintage collectors, users, or players—and indeed, seasoned ones—would recognize it. I actually quite like this "only those who know will know" feeling (I might be a bit obsessed...). Celine is now part of the LV group, so the new collections we see have a very unified, group-driven aesthetic. Honestly, the new designs don't inspire me to look closely... There's a "urban legend" that everyone who buys a pre-owned bag must have a Celine in their collection because their vintage pieces are so numerous and unlikely to be duplicated. (I believe new designs simply can't compete with vintage pieces due to significant differences in craftsmanship and material quality; you can easily find complaints online about the poor quality of new items from major brands...) This is a clutch envelope bag in a rare olive green hue. Pre-owned bags in blue-green tones are particularly hard to find! It's an incredibly versatile style that pairs well with almost any outfit, perfect for daily errands or work. The chain strap is original. It can be worn as a chain bag, shoulder bag, crossbody bag, underarm bag, or carried as a clutch. You can style it however you wish! The key highlight is its rare olive green color (close to military green), a shade that's extremely popular in recent years, with brands constantly releasing green bags! The leather is the famously durable and wear-resistant grained calfskin. The front and back of the bag show no significant scratches, scuffs, or indentations. The stitching is firm with no loose threads. The bottom, edges, and corners exhibit no scratches, scuffs, or peeling. The corners show no obvious signs of wear! Upon close inspection, you'll notice some faint surface marks, indicative of use. However, these are barely noticeable when worn, thanks to the leather's natural texture. The entire bag is free from any discoloration, fading, peeling, or coating issues. The interior flap closure shows minor signs of use, such as slight creasing from opening and closing. The interior is leather-lined and features a zippered compartment. The zipper functions smoothly without any issues. There are also two unzippered pockets, one on the front and one on the back exterior. The interior shows slight signs of use and indentations from the chain strap; the previous owner likely stored the chain inside with other items pressing down on it. Please remember to store the chain outside the bag, or if you must place it inside, wrap it in a soft cloth first. The chain is original, exceptionally golden and clean, with no signs of gold loss, oxidation, or scratches. Its design allows for versatile wear: as a clutch, shoulder bag, or crossbody. The stitching at the chain attachment points is secure, with no looseness or detachment. The most crucial element, the golden coin clasp, is exceptionally golden! Importantly, it comes with its original box and dust bag, making it a true collector's item! The skill of artisans was undoubtedly more refined than that of machines, much like how everyone appreciates products made by skilled craftspeople! Today, the vast majority of processes are mechanized with minimal human assembly, losing the meticulous detail of the past. A simple, direct comparison can be made by looking at the new "reissued" monogram patterns from various brands in recent years versus the authentic vintage monograms; the level of detail in the monogram patterns alone is entirely different. If you love monograms, seek out pre-owned pieces! Truly! In terms of style, vintage pieces from older eras tend to be simpler, timeless, and enduring. Many current new designs are actually remakes of older styles. However, new designs are priced higher than their vintage counterparts. New designs are typically based on older models, with added details or altered designs. The final product often ends up being more complex (or perhaps peculiar...) than the original vintage piece. As we grow older, we come to understand that simplicity endures! As we age, our wardrobes often return to basic styles because the more fundamental, the more versatile. The quality of materials in vintage pieces is also superior to new ones. Anyone knowledgeable about leather can see that the materials used in new collections are generally of a lower grade than vintage ones. This is mainly because the cost of high-quality raw materials is now too high, and their availability is less than before; global resources are dwindling! Furthermore, brands back then didn't have the widespread presence they do now, with numerous branches everywhere. Their clientele typically had a certain income level and high expectations for the finished products. There wasn't the "fast fashion" culture of today; a bag was expected to be used for many years. The difference between new and old eras is clearly visible in the hardware. Many new bags' hardware oxidizes and discolors after just a year or two of use, but vintage pieces typically do not. This is due to the higher quality materials and meticulous craftsmanship. Moreover, hardware from earlier eras was often plated with genuine K gold! It's worth mentioning that Chanel Vintage is expensive for a reason; many of its clasps and chains contain real gold, certified by gold appraisers! This is why many vintage bags, even from the 60s and 70s, still gleam today if well-preserved. As for new items available now, to my knowledge, none of the brands I'm familiar with have hardware containing K gold anymore, making them prone to oxidation. Many say buying a vintage bag is a form of alternative investment, as they rarely depreciate and often appreciate in value. This is because well-preserved pre-owned bags are becoming increasingly scarce in the market; each one that disappears is gone forever. Remember, each of these pieces is discontinued, and the number existing in the world is finite, meaning they will only become rarer, more expensive, and harder to find. Additionally, many brands periodically increase their prices, and each price hike drives up the market value of pre-owned items. If a brand releases a "reissue," the vintage reference piece or similar styles will see a direct price increase! Furthermore, with the recent trend of Japanese and Korean celebrities using vintage bags, the price of a model once worn by a celebrity can skyrocket instantly. This is because, for a period, many people will frantically search for that specific model or a similar alternative, causing the prices of those few items to multiply... Therefore, vintage is truly a case of "buy early, enjoy now; buy late, pay more" (this isn't an advertising slogan... it's a truth in the pre-owned world...). This is my personal experience; I regret not acquiring many series earlier, as they are now impossible to find, or if found, come with an exorbitant price tag... But the problem is, even knowing the price is astronomical, you're compelled to buy because waiting will only mean higher prices (unless the condition is poor).
