■About Moissanite
The moissanite in this piece is a synthetic Gemstone.
A type of mineral. It is also called moissanite or Stone.
The composition is silicon carbide and the chemical formula is SiC.
In terms of hardness (Mohs hardness), moissanite has a hardness of 9.25-9.5, which is second only to diamonds at 10 among Gemstone. It is also rated higher than diamonds in terms of the index that indicates the resistance to breakage when a large force is applied.
In terms of brilliance, which determines the value of a Gemstone, moissanite surpasses diamond. The refractive index of light, which indicates the intensity of brilliance, is 2.65-2.69 compared to diamond's 2.42, and the dispersion of light, which creates sparkle, is 0.044 for diamonds and 0.104 for moissanite, which is almost 2.5 times that of diamonds.
Diamonds have an affinity for oils and fats, so they easily absorb sebum and other substances, but moissanite has a low affinity for oils and fats, making it easier to care for and less likely to lose its shine.
Moissanite is rarely found naturally on Earth, and is mostly found in meteorites. The first moissanite was discovered in the Canyon Diablo meteorite in Arizona, USA (1893). The moissanite in the Allende meteorite is said to have originated from particles blown off during a supernova explosion.
It is on the expensive side of synthetic Gemstone and is a different Stone from diamonds, but aside from its value and rarity, it is not much harder than diamonds, and has a brilliance and transparency that are not inferior to diamonds, making it excellent value for money, making it a worthwhile jewelry choice.
