Artist: Amedeo Modigliani
Amedeo Modigliani (Italian: Amedeo Modigliani, July 12, 1884 - January 24, 1920), Italian artist, painter and sculptor, a representative artist of the Expressionist school one.
Modigliani was characterized by his bold paintings of nude women. He was severely criticized by contemporary conservative trends, and was only recognized by later generations. Modigliani was influenced by ancient and Renaissance art since childhood, and had close friendship with famous artists such as Pablo Picasso and Constantin Brancusi, and was further influenced by the Neo-Impressionism of the late 19th century. , as well as the stimulation of African art, Cubism and other art schools of the same period, he created portraits with a deep personal style and characterized by graceful arcs, and became one of the representative artists of the Expressionist school.
Amedeo. Modigliani was born in Livorno, Italy on July 12, 1884, and his nickname was Dido. The Mo family is a famous Jewish family from Rome, but his father often does business abroad, so his role in the family does not appear to be very important. His mother and natal family had the greatest influence on Dido's upbringing and his frailty since childhood, so maternal love was extremely important to him. In January 1906, Modigliani took a train from Livorno to Paris. At the beginning of the 20th century, a wave of artists gradually poured into the Montparnasse district, forming a new artistic community with "beehives", domes, domes, coffee houses and studios such as lilac gardens. After 1909, Modigliani He also moved here, where he met Paris School artists including Picasso, Brancusi, Soutine, Chislin, and Tsuguharu Fujita. In 1917, the Polish poets Ziporowski and his wife, who were also the artist's best agents, raised money for Modigliani's first solo exhibition. They failed at that time and only sold one painting. When five nude paintings were exhibited in the gallery, they were considered to have pornographic associations and were banned by the police. This incident made Modigliani famous overnight. The subjects of Modigliani's creations, whether sculptures or paintings, are almost all based on figures, and there are only four landscape paintings among his surviving works. The rest are paintings of figures he saw in his life, including professional models, portraits or nudes of his friend and lover Jenny. In terms of styling style, he mixed Western tradition and various cultures, especially admiration for Italian classical tradition. He was also inspired by Cézanne, Pre-Raphaelites, Renaissance paintings, Cubist paintings, African sculptures, Cambodian reliefs, and Japanese prints. He transferred the study of sculpture to painting, avoiding the description of muscles and looking for a simplified quality that expresses the inner image. Regardless of whether they are men or women, the subjects Modigliani depicts all reveal a feminine delicacy. The character's sight is almost unfocused, and his eyes are blank and empty, as if he is blind to the outside world. Modigliani had a profound influence on early Chinese artists who studied in France. The human body paintings of San Yu, Pan Yuliang, and Lin Fengmian were significantly inspired by him. Modigliani's influence can still be seen in many portraits of contemporary artists today.
