An image of this flower was found in what is now Mexico, where the Aztecs lived in those distant times. The Aztecs decorated their homes and clothes with dahlia flowers, and ate the tubers like potatoes. Dahlias were used to treat epilepsy, wounds, and other illnesses. They even built a water supply system from the hollow stems of large varieties. The dahlia flower was considered the flower of a leader and was associated with the god of war, who demanded sacrifices. Perhaps that is why today the red dahlia symbolizes valor, courage, and power. Dahlias became widespread throughout the world thanks to the Spaniards. Initially, they tried to use them as a vegetable. But then the decorative value of the dahlia began to prevail. And there was even a "dahlia fever", the prices for tubers reached unimaginable amounts, and sellers were ready to do anything to get them. Nowadays, dahlias have become widespread. Thanks to selection, an incredible variety of varieties has appeared, striking in their shapes, sizes and palette. They decorate flower beds and parks in cities.
