This is a work of Li Meishu in his later years. With the evolution of the times, the field scene of the buffalo in the past,
It's rare, only to find themes from the ranch. The picture is switched from the early field atmosphere to the description of light and shade.
"Ranch" is a large-scale animal painting painted in 1980. As early as the Taiwan Exhibition in 1934, Li Meishu would be selected for "Buffalo".
In the first government exhibition in 1938, the painting of water buffalo, "The Wilderness", was "unchecked", but these two works can only be observed from the catalogue.
At that time, the management of the texture, volume and tone of the buffalo was the painter's concern.
But the painting "Ranch" in his later years used water buffalo to present the beauty of color. Although the water buffalo is not as bright and deaf as the koi,
But a painter can make a dull scene rich in brilliance.
The main colors of cattle are orange and brown, and the plum tree has made the tawny warm and rich with extremely subtle color changes.
It is vividly expressed that the green grass on the upper left half is so verdant,
The lower right half of the land is rich gray-white and blue-purple shades.
Because Li Meishu's picture quality is both pure and moist, the originally lackluster "Ranch",
Because of these "bright and dripping" colors, this painting even makes people "beautiful and delicious",
Li Meishu painted cows, but painted a koi-like appearance

Artist introduction
Li Meishu (1902-1983) studied in the normal department of the Governor's Mansion Mandarin School in his early years. He was deeply influenced by Western painting, and the idea of learning painting arose spontaneously.
Early paintings "Still Life" in 1927; "Three Gorges Back Street" in 1928 were selected for the first and second Taiwan Exhibition. In 1928, he went to Tokyo to study painting at the three painting institutes of Kawabata, Toshusha and Hongo. In the following year, he passed the entrance examination of Tokyo Art School (the predecessor of Tokyo Art University),
Teachers such as Nagahara Kotaro, Kobayashi Mango and Okada Saburosuke, etc., laid a solid foundation for subsequent realistic styles.
In 1934, together with friends Chen Chengbo, Yan Shuilong, Yang Sanlang, Liao Jichun, Chen Qingfen, Li Shiqiao, and Li Shi Tiechen, he co-created "Taiyang Art Association". In 1935, "Daughter of Rest" won the first seat of the 9th Taiwan Exhibition.
Received the "Taiwan Governor's Award". In 1939, "Red Clothes" was selected for the 3rd Cultural Exhibition (formerly the Imperial Japan Exhibition). In 1940, "Flowers and Women" was selected for the 4th Cultural Exhibition (Blessings Exhibition),
Since then, he has established his historical status as an outstanding Western artist in Taiwan. In 1946, he applied for the first provincial exhibition review committee, and the exhibition "Sunday" was purchased by the provincial government and presented to President Jiang.
Large-scale paintings such as "Dusk" and "Outing" in 1948 are regarded as representative works. After Taiwan's recovery in 1945,
In addition to getting involved in the local politics of the Three Gorges, in 1947, he was recommended by the public to preside over the reconstruction of the Qingshui Zushi Temple in Changfuyan.
Since then, the subject matter and style of the paintings have increasingly tended to be local and realistic, expressing his maverick and arrogant demeanor. After 1962, he served as a professor of fine arts at Cultural University, National Art College, and Normal University.
Director and other teaching positions. Instructing art students and other sculpture students to participate in the metal relief project of the Three Gorges Zushi Temple,
It is a pioneering work in the history of art education in Taiwan to invest the professional skills of the academy in the practice of traditional temple construction.
In addition to the formal education of the college, Professor Li's contribution to the promotion of art education has guided many traditional wood and stone carvers hired by the Zushi Temple with rigorous and exquisite aesthetic qualities.
The ancestral temple has become a "Palace of Oriental Art" built with high-quality carvings, and it is a classic masterpiece of modern temple architecture in Taiwan.
In his later years, he was elected by the fine arts circles for such lofty positions as the chairman of the Oil Painting Society, the chairman of the Artists Association, and the honorary chairman of the Oil Painting Society.
