Manganese four-tile tableau of flowers in pot in circle with meanders in wooden frame. 1880 to 186. Tableau total ± 30x30 cm. In very condition with some craquelure and other signs of aging. The photographs are part of the description. “Delft” wall tiles have their origin in the second half of the sixteenth century, known as the early "Golden Age" of The Netherlands when Dutch science, trade, military and art became among the most acclaimed in the world.These popular tiles were often used to decorate fireplaces, kitchens or bathrooms since they could be easily cleaned. Hand-painted, they often depict everyday life of centuries ago, landscapes, animals, flowers, or have a biblical theme, and they are much sought after collector's items nowadays. They come in various sizes, but the two most common sizes are “five-thumb” and “six-thumb”, a thumb being about the width of a man’s thumb (about an inch).
