The Formosan flying squirrel is a charming and captivating nocturnal large flying squirrel, primarily found in the mid-to-high altitude forests of Taiwan. It can reach a body length of 35–43 cm, with a tail length of approximately 44–48 cm. Its face and belly are pure white, while its back is a dark reddish-brown. The tail is long and dark brown, with some individuals having a white tip. A gliding membrane extends from its forelimbs to its hindlimbs, allowing it to glide between treetops for distances of 20–40 meters, and sometimes even up to 400 meters.
