<Beauty that brings you happiness, one of a kind in the world>
In the past, when the people of Watari, Miyagi Prefecture, gave gifts, they would place them in "bags" tailored from leftover kimono fabrics. For example, it might have been a 1.8-liter bottle of rice given as a celebration or a thank-you gift. There was no set name for these bags, and "fukuro" (bag) became "fuguro" through a linguistic shift.
"FUGURO" is a remake that revives this traditional custom. The material is kimono fabric with auspicious patterns, carefully selected from thousands of garments sleeping in wardrobes. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted with the heartfelt wish for the recipient's happiness sewn into its seams.
We deliver a beauty that is unique in the world, carrying happiness to you, by sewing the spirit of gratitude into our products, embodying a refined tradition of wrapping and gifting precious items.
Two colors of thread are used to match the colors of the outer and inner fabrics. Please enjoy the beautiful stitching that is pleasing to the eye.
<A Symbol of Happiness: Auspicious Patterns>
These are auspicious patterns used as "symbols of happiness" that bring good fortune. Understanding the meanings of these Japanese patterns connects us to the depth of Japanese culture inherited from ancient times.
<Kikko Mon (Hexagonal Pattern)> "Fulfillment of love," "Marital harmony," "Longevity." This pattern resembles a turtle's shell. In ancient times, this pattern was believed to possess spiritual power and was therefore used only for royalty or mystical objects. It is also a symbol of longevity.
<Kiku Mon (Chrysanthemum Pattern)> "Longevity," "Wish for rejuvenation," "Prayer for good health." Chrysanthemums were believed to have anti-aging properties and were used medicinally. It is considered the king of hundred flowers and a symbol of longevity.
<A Japanese Gift>
As the material is kimono fabric, a symbol of Japanese culture, these items are also perfect as souvenirs to take overseas or as gifts for foreign visitors. They are compact and convenient to carry. An explanatory booklet in both Japanese and English is included.
<Versatile Use>
Use it as a bag-in-bag, or as a small pouch for keys and supplements. Pack your favorite snacks for a refreshing break at the office. Display it as interior decoration in your living room. It's fun to think of ways to use it, and its versatility can be enjoyed in various ways depending on your ideas. It can also be used as a reversible item.
<The Joy of Gazing, The Pleasure of Collecting>
The kimono fabric with its auspicious patterns is a joy to behold and brings images of happiness just by looking at it. By collecting your favorite pieces, you can enjoy creating your own personal gallery.

<Notes on Purchase>
*As all items are handmade, please understand that each piece is unique and may vary slightly in size, shape, and pattern.
*In rare cases, if we obtain exceptionally well-preserved kimono fabric, we may create multiple pieces from the same fabric. Please note that the pattern placement may differ slightly from the photo due to the cutting position of the fabric.
*Please be aware that the color and texture may appear different on your screen compared to the actual product. If you have any concerns, please contact us or refrain from purchasing.
*As the kimono fabrics are often used items and their materials are not specified, it is common that the material cannot be identified. We thoroughly inspect and process (e.g., washing) the fabrics before remaking them. Please handle with care, as some fabrics may fade or shrink when wet.
*As we also sell on other sites, please forgive us in case of a sell-out.
