Material Selection The cowhide used by "Cut Line" is exclusively A-grade, high-oil, vegetable-tanned leather from Italy. As a natural material, and due to the minimal-impact vegetable tanning process employed by the tannery, the leather may inevitably bear minor "scars," "wrinkles," or "veins." We strive to avoid these during the cutting process or place them on less visible or non-load-bearing areas of the product. 2. Pure Hand Stitching Our products are not made with sewing machines; all stitching is done entirely by hand. Before stitching, special diamond chisels are used to punch stitch holes in the leather, creating the signature wavy stitch effect that distinguishes our work from machine-stitched items. While this significantly increases production time, it is a crucial step where the leather artisan imbues the piece with soul and a gentle, tactile warmth. 3. Hand-Burnished Edges The final step before completion is burnishing and sealing the leather edges. To achieve smooth, rounded, and natural-looking edges, "Cut Line" employs its own unique method. First, sandpaper is used to repeatedly smooth any sharp edges. Then, an edge sealant is applied for a flat finish, repeated 2-3 times. Finally, an edge wax is applied, followed by vigorous polishing with a burnishing tool until the edges are perfectly smooth. 4. Hand-Dyed Leather For our hand-dyed products, "Cut Line" currently uses imported Fiebing's leather alcohol dyes from the United States. To ensure even and natural coloration, the leather surface is first dampened with water. Then, the dye is applied repeatedly with a sponge, gradually deepening the shade until the desired color is achieved. After drying, a color sealant is applied to enhance colorfastness. Lastly, the surface is wiped with clean water to remove any dust and further even out the color. As each piece is hand-dyed, subtle variations in color exist between products, making every item truly unique.
