These are upcycled Kintsugi SDGs jewelry pieces, created from ceramics by Matsugunzan Pottery (Shōunzan gama) in Hagi City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. We give new life to broken or chipped ceramics that would otherwise be discarded, applying Kintsugi to reimagine them as accessories. Our concept is to foster a connection with nature and enduring Japanese traditions, reimagining these materials into modern accessories that bridge the past and future, unlocking new possibilities. We've paired a pottery fragment with a muted, soft grey hue, reminiscent of aged stone, with morganite and resin pearls. Kintsugi is applied to the sides of the pottery shard, allowing the gold to catch the light from every angle, adding an elegant touch. The accompanying chain is made of surgical stainless steel, coated with 18K gold, making it resistant to tarnishing and gentle on the skin, while also being hypoallergenic. This piece utilizes a modern, simplified Kintsugi technique. Instead of traditional lacquer derived from the lacquer tree, we use a synthetic urushi (new lacquer) that is less likely to cause allergic reactions, along with gold powder (brass powder).
