Tektites are formed when a large meteorite hits the Earth, and the silicon content of rocks and sand is ejected by the shock and high temperature of the impact. It is natural glass that is rapidly cooled and solidified in the sky. It looks pitch black, but if you shine a light on it from the back, as in the second image, it becomes transparent and you can see the natural glass bubbles inside.
