By carefully controlling the thickness of each glaze application and firing at 1260°C, the piece undergoes a 20-hour transformation in the kiln. This intense heat allows the glaze to contract and flow, naturally forming the intricate patterns and fluid movement reminiscent of peacock feathers. The challenge in its creation lies in the precise control of glaze thickness and the delicate adjustment of the firing temperature curve. Too thin or insufficient heat will prevent the peacock feather pattern from emerging, while too thick or excessive heat can cause the glaze to run onto the supporting board, potentially damaging both the cup and the board. Even ambient temperature fluctuations can influence the final outcome. Despite years of dedicated practice, the subtle variations remain difficult to predict with absolute certainty, which is precisely what imbues each finished piece with its unique preciousness.
