Charcoal burning: ancient technique and unique sublimation Wood-firing is the essence of ancient ceramic firing. It uses wood as fuel and takes 3 to 7 days of long firing. It is not only time-consuming and labor-intensive, but also relies on the accumulation and inheritance of experience. Its uniqueness lies in the ashes and traces left by the fire on the body after burning. These natural textures make each work a unique work of art. The success or failure of a work depends on the natural harmony between "soil, fire, wood, and kiln". Wood-fired porcelain can be roughly divided into two types: unglazed and glazed. Unglazed wood-fired porcelain is fired directly on adobe, presenting the most rustic texture and showing the natural charm of simplicity. Glazed porcelain, on the other hand, adds glaze to the porcelain and blends the glaze colors under the baptism of fire, making the works more varied and more elegant. In addition to its natural artistic value, wood-fired works can make water softer and make water and tea sweeter due to the attachment of natural carbon. Unique process of carbon burning On this basis, charcoal-fired wood-fired is a unique technique that sublimates tradition. This technique requires the temperature of the wood-fired kiln to reach over 1200 degrees Celsius. When the work is half-molten, the potter will open the kiln and throw the raw charcoal directly into the kiln. The raw charcoal will not burn under the high temperature in the kiln, but will melt directly and tightly cover the surface of the work. This is the essence of "entering carbon". This technique is extremely challenging because the work itself is in a nearly molten state and the slightest carelessness may cause the work to collapse. The degree of charcoal melting also directly affects the final appearance and success of the work. The charm of charcoal firewood The works fired with charcoal not only have the unique fire marks, ash and water quality optimization of wood-fired pots, but also have a unique aesthetic sense of calmness and restraint with the imprint of time because of the special treatment of "charcoaling". This special effect is often described as having the simplicity and vigor of a "shipwreck on the seabed".
