"The Great Wave off Kanagawa" is one of Katsushika Hokusai's "Thirty-Six Views of Mt. Fuji" series. He was 70 years old when he created it. "Kanagawa" is the place name, "Oki" refers to the sea area, and "Nauri" refers to the boats wrapped in huge waves. With exquisite brushwork, it depicts the visual impact of stormy waves. Hokusai used a large amount of Berlin blue pigment to express the colors of the sky and water to his heart's content. Mount Fuji is the protagonist of the painting, and it can be seen in all directions whether it is a distant view or a close-up view. Seemingly simple, the picture has a strong sense of simplicity, and the sense of order in the painting makes the viewpoint very low, making people feel as if they are in the waves, with a deep sense of presence. The striking juxtaposition and simple colors are deeply admired by the world and become one of the most famous classic paintings in the world.
