If you are particular about the current condition of the plant, feel free to message the designer for photos. 🔥🔥🔥 The Kaiōmaru, Gymnocalycium denudatum, is a succulent plant belonging to the Gymnocalycium genus in the cactus family. It is flattened and spherical, with an ink-green body that can develop a slight glossy sheen when the plant is thriving. Its spines are slightly curved and lie close to the body, and it produces white flowers. In Japan, it is known as "Jeru Maru." The original species are native to southern Brazil and northern Uruguay in South America. The Jeru Maru itself is a highly variable species and has been cultivated for many years, being one of the earliest discovered species in the Gymnocalycium genus. The Kaiōmaru is a horticultural variety of Jeru Maru, specifically Gymnocalycium denudatum guayensis. "Kaiōmaru" is a name given by the Japanese. Young plants tend to be more rounded, while mature ones are flattened. The spines are curved and lie close to the body. The surface is a vibrant, glossy green, and it possesses genes from the "Hihikagami," making it visually similar, and can be considered an "upgraded version" of the Hihikagami. Kaiōmaru typically has fewer ribs, usually 5 to 8. The tubercles are smooth and flat. The spines are radial, ivory or creamy yellow, usually 3-5 per areole, and about 1.5 to 2cm long, resembling long-legged spiders clinging to the body, hence the nickname "spider cactus." It generally blooms in spring and summer with bright, pure white flowers, approximately 5cm long and 7cm wide. Many current Kaiōmaru specimens exhibit pink coloration, sometimes with pink buds that open to white, or variations in the petals. These are likely the result of hybridization and selective breeding. | Environment | Prefers a growing environment with ample sunshine and warmth. It is heat and sun tolerant; it can be left in direct sun during summer without shade. Its weakness is a lack of cold tolerance; winter temperatures should be kept above 0°C (while watering is withheld). Cold protection measures should be taken in winter. It is highly adaptable to its environment. | Soil | Prefers loose, well-draining sandy loam. Any soil with sufficient nutrients, good aeration, and quick drainage will suffice. The designer has already used a specially formulated succulent mix, so you generally don't need to worry about this. | Sunlight | When growing cacti, they should be placed in a location with plenty of sunlight. Expose them to as much sun as possible. Only with sufficient sunlight will they grow well and flower prolifically. Insufficient sunlight can lead to etiolation (stretching). | Watering | Cacti are succulents, and their bodies store a large amount of water. As they do not have high water requirements, follow the principle of "water only when the soil is dry." During the winter dormancy period, control or withhold watering. | Flowering | In terms of flowering, the Kaiōmaru is similar to the Hihikagami. Small plants with a diameter of about 3cm will begin to flower. With proper care and sufficient sunlight, they can bloom multiple times a year. The larger the plant, the more flowers it will produce. Mature plants often have several flowers blooming simultaneously, covering the body so that only flowers are visible, creating a spectacular sight.
