Istituto Fotocromo Italiano (IFI), the Italian Photocolor Institute,
was founded in Florence in 1928 by engineer Vincenzo Balocchi.
Besides his engineering research, he was also a renowned amateur photographer at the time
and had served as the art director for the Fratelli Alinari company.
-
Today, IFI remains led by the same family as it was in its early days.
Each product carries an authentic Italian lineage,
with all processes—from material selection, pattern design, to production and printing—completed in Italy.
The paper used is also Italian art paper,
perfectly rendering the printed colors onto the material,
and continuing the rich, vintage artistic styles of Italy and other European nations.
-
For IFI,
a wealth of nostalgic styles and local character define their work.
Their creations span opera, film, advertisements, and even architecture and world literature,
offering a distinctive and comprehensive range of styles.
Through these images, we can imagine the atmosphere of bygone eras.
If you happen to be captivated by medieval Europe,
you might find much to appreciate in IFI's work!
