Inlaid pieces—known as *damasquinado* or *damasquino* in Spanish—are an art form where steel is decorated with threads of gold and silver. Damascening is the art of inlaying different metals into one another. (Typically, gold or silver is inlaid into a dark, oxidized steel background) to produce intricate patterns reminiscent of *niello*. The English term derives from the similarity in richness of pattern to damask silk. The technique is still practiced in cities with a long history of damascening, including Malaysia, Indonesia, Toledo, Spain, Eibar in the Basque Country, and Kyoto, Japan. ⚜️ Circa 1960s-1980s ⚜️ Shows normal signs of wear.
