Thank you for your understanding. Have you heard of "Bagua Red"? Among the many varieties of cacti, it's considered quite an easy-to-care-for type, commonly seen in homes across Taiwan. The cactus colloquially known as "Bagua Red" or "Bagua Huang" is a species of globular cactus called Echinopsis eyriesii. This cactus, belonging to the Echinopsis genus (or sea urchin ball genus) within the Cactaceae family, has a genus name derived from "echino-", meaning porcupine, indicating that cacti in this genus have spines resembling long and dense porcupine quills. The suffix "-opsis" means appearance, suggesting that cacti in this genus look like a ball of porcupines. Therefore, most cacti in this genus tend to be round or globular in shape, with areoles arranged along longitudinal ribs. The flowers of this genus are also relatively large, with a long tubular base often exceeding 20 centimeters. The outer surface of the tubular base is covered with clusters of dark, fine hairs. If the variety blooms at night, the flowers are usually white and possess a subtle fragrance. Bagua Red is a perennial evergreen succulent herbaceous plant. Its stem is spherical or elliptical, fleshy green, and can reach over 10 centimeters in diameter. It features 12 to 14 longitudinal ribs, each bearing dense clusters of spines, typically 10 per cluster, with varying lengths arranged radially. The color ranges from light brown to yellowish-brown, with the tips of the spines being darker. The leaves are small, located within the spine clusters, and fall off early. Flowers emerge from the spine clusters on the longitudinal ribs, blooming at night. Their color is white, pale violet-white, or pale reddish-white. The flower shape is similar to that of a night-blooming cereus, with a long, trumpet-like or tubular base that can exceed 20 centimeters. The exterior of the trumpet-like part is covered with scales, the axils have long hairs, and the sepals and petals are indistinct. The fruit is a berry, spherical, spineless, with small, numerous seeds. Propagation through division or offsets offers a high survival rate. 【Care Instructions】 Cacti are generally very drought-tolerant and sun-loving, capable of surviving for 1-2 months without water. Overwatering can lead to root rot. Therefore, well-draining and airy soil is recommended. Suggested mix: 'Granular soil:Potting soil = 7:3'. Watering: Approximately every 10-14 days is sufficient. Sunlight: Full sun or partial sun. Even with insufficient light indoors, they can survive due to their robust nature, but their growth may not be aesthetically pleasing or could lead to etiolation.
