The founder, Jean Painlevé, was descended from scientists and politicians, and was also the founder of scientific documentary films (among many other roles, which will not be detailed here). His fascination with the ocean sparked his inspiration and creativity, which is why you'll find many seahorse-themed jewelry pieces if you search for this brand! The jewelry pieces are marked with JHP (Jean Hippocampe Painlevé), and "hippocampe" means seahorse. (The hippocampus is an important part of the vertebrate brain; you can look it up.) His works often feature brass in various colors. This item is made of metal and plastic. It is quite substantial, with some fading and rust spots. It is in normal working condition.
