She feared the sound of the lawnmower, always looked at humans with eyes full of trust and dependence, and when she was young, she followed humans around like a human baby, as she didn't have a goat mother to follow. Within the human house, she exhibited her goat nature, jumping onto chairs, then tables, and then the top of the refrigerator. She seemed confused about whether she was a goat or a human, playfully head-butting both other goats and humans. She was truly no different from cats or dogs; she was a sentient being, just like humans. I once thought that not eating meat meant not harming animals. Little did I know that the cruelty and exploitation in dairy production were even more profound. Cows (and goats) are forced into continuous pregnancy, their innate desire to nurture their calves is constantly denied, and male calves are confined in cages for months before becoming high-end veal. Female calves are destined to repeat their mothers' fate before becoming cheap ground meat. I assumed unfertilized eggs caused no harm to any life. However, in reality, for profit, male chicks are sent directly to the grinder shortly after hatching, their chirping cries instantly silenced into a bloody mess. Even to prevent these confined animals from harming each other out of madness from suffering, cows (and goats) are placed in boxes shortly after birth, and their horns are removed with tools without anesthesia. Chicks have their beaks trimmed to prevent them from pecking each other. As I delved into this information, I decided to change my dietary habits and become a vegan practitioner.
