Butcher is the original creator of Precious Moments. Samuel J. Butcher was born in Jackson, Michigan on New Year's Day, 1939. He grew up in a poor family. When he was a child, Sam loved to draw under the dining table, and his talent has long been recognized by his family and many friends. In his childhood, what Sam remembers most vividly is the Bible stories told to him by his grandmother. Although he was young, this did make him have a strong interest in faith and find subjects for his paintings from the Bible. In 1974, Sam drew the first Precious Moments picture, and in 1975, he officially launched Precious Moments to the world. Initially, Sam Butcher used his painted googly-eyed dolls to bring a little comfort to frustrated families. Sam Butcher calls these delightful figures Precious Moments because they convey a message of love, care and sharing. In 1978, Enesco Chairman Eugene Freedman first saw Sam Butcher figures on a small series of greeting cards and considered the possibility of transforming the images into three-dimensional figures. So Eugene Freedman took the greeting card to Japan to his friend and sculptor Yasuhei Fujioka. With Fujioka-san's amazing creativity and talent, he finally created the first ceramic doll "Love One Another" for Precious Moments. Sam Butcher was ecstatic when he saw the figure, and so were the collectors of Precious Moments. In 1979, Precious Moments launched the first 21 ceramic dolls (Original 21) with the themes of truth and encouragement. This series quickly gained a place in the collector's market. To this day. Precious Moments has been made into thousands of ceramic dolls, conveying the same message as always and touching millions of people around the world. It usually takes five to seven days to create a Precious Moments ceramic figurine, and each craftsman has received extensive skills training - from carving to oiling.
