Tokkuri/vase

This tokkuri/vase was wheel thrown from my small rooftop studio where I am now writing this description. I look out at the Yamingshan mountains and draw in a breath. This tokkuri was made from local Taiwanese clay and then was wood-fired for 4 days. Wood firing is very unpredictable as the wood ash settles on the pot in random ways. The beauty of this firing is that your pots will be original and unique, not able to be reproduced. No glaze was applied to this piece. Another interesting point was that this piece was also not bisque fired. This means after I made the pot from the raw clay I put it straight into the wood kiln. The result is a slightly metallic/bronze color that looks quite unique. My seal is stamped at the base of the pot near the trimmed foot ring. I make pottery to hopefully add pleasure to someone's daily life. That is the feeling that motivated me to create functional items out of clay.
