The Meaning Behind the Painting If the world has never given us an answer, then why do we continue to search for one? Albert Camus contemplated a profound question: Why do human beings so desperately desire the world to have an answer? We want life to have meaning. We want things to have reasons. We hope that our efforts will lead toward some definite destination. Yet the world itself does not necessarily answer us. In Camus’ philosophy, the “absurd” is not simply chaos, nor does it mean that life has no value. Under the artist’s brush, black, white, gold, red, and blue intertwine with one another. No single brushstroke is required to obey or restrain another. No color is required to remain within its designated place. They collide, overlap, and flow, leaving traces upon one another. Perhaps chaos is simply an order that we have not yet learned to understand. This work does not attempt to create a complete world. What the artist seeks to preserve is something more fleeting— the moment before the world becomes a world. A moment when nothing has yet been given a name, when everything remains a possibility. If life comes without an instruction manual, how, then, will we choose to live?
