Firewood Introduction
Firewood firing is one of the traditional kiln firing techniques. In the early firing of pottery, in order to prevent the wood ash produced after burning from adhering to the vessel, Gu always covered each piece with a sagger to keep the glaze flawless. In contrast, today's wood-fired works are presented with three elements: soil, wood ash, and fire marks. These elements are naturally produced and unpredictable. Compared with the predictability of traditional glazes, wood-fired firing is even more elusive.
