Decorative oval-shaped metal box with removable lid and small ball finial, cast in relief with scrolling acanthus leaf ornament to each panel. The upper band carries engraved leaf detailing, and the lid is pierced with small openings, suggesting it may have been intended as a potpourri holder or decorative scent container. The underside label reads: “Antique Finish – Opwrijven met een zachte droge doek” (Rub with a soft dry cloth), confirming Dutch retail origin and indicating the surface is intentionally patinated to create an aged effect rather than naturally oxidised. This type of care label is typical of late 20th-century decorative giftware sold in the Netherlands. The metal is most likely cast zinc or nickel alloy with an applied antique bronze or pewter-tone coating. The darker recessed areas and lighter rubbed highlights are characteristic of a chemically darkened and hand-finished “antique finish” over base metal. A thin lacquer layer may be present to preserve the surface tone. Likely produced for the Dutch market, late 20th century (c. 1970s–1990s).
