"The more local, the more stylish."
The "Jia-Zhi" bag, originally named "加志" (pronounced "ga-ji" in Taiwanese Hokkien, sounding like "ka-ji"), also known as "加薦仔" or "茭薦仔," is a uniquely Taiwanese tote bag. Its name originates from the Japanese word "kagiami," referring to its weaving technique. Legend has it that the Jia-Zhi bag originated in Jingliao Village, Houbi District, Tainan City, initially hand-woven from蔺草 (rush grass). With Taiwan's industrialization, it evolved into the commonly seen three-color nylon mesh fabric. Its soft texture, waterproof and durable nature, along with its affordability, has made it a must-buy local specialty for many tourists visiting Taiwan.
