Artistry from Sun, Sand, and Soil — Chulucanas Ceramic Incense Holder
Chulucanas is a celebrated hub of pottery in Peru, where ceramic creations are born from the sun's embrace, the nourishment of sand and soil, and the skillful hands of artisans. Descendants of the ancient Vicus civilization, these potters carry on the wisdom and techniques of their ancestors, handcrafting each piece with soul. This ceramic incense holder is their artistic gift to contemporary living.
The Making Process
The creation of our ceramic incense holders begins with carefully kneading the clay to achieve a uniform texture, followed by portioning the clay according to the required weight. After shaping and adjusting the height, the pieces undergo approximately three hours of natural air-drying.
Once dry, artisans hand-paint each piece with natural mineral pigments, applying 4 to 5 layers repeatedly to achieve the desired rich color saturation. They are then fired in a kiln, allowing the colors to meld with the clay.
The final crucial step involves a traditional smoking technique using mango leaves, with an additional two-hour firing in the kiln. This process not only imbues the pottery with a unique color and aroma but also serves as a tribute to nature and tradition. After cooling, they are cleaned and finished, resulting in each simple yet extraordinary incense holder.
Let every incense burning session connect you to a thousand years of handmade warmth.
