The lower half of the butterfly's wings transitions into hibiscus petals, creating a layered effect. The main inspiration is to capture the delicate, iridescent glow of butterfly scales as they flutter. ꕤ ̊⊹+ The surface of butterfly wings is covered with countless scales, each measuring approximately 50 to 200 micrometers (1 micrometer = 0.001 mm). These scales are incredibly fine, almost like powder. They detach easily and serve several key functions for survival, such as helping the butterfly escape from danger (like spiderwebs). They also provide waterproofing, camouflage, increased buoyancy, and thermoregulation. And, of course, they create that stunning iridescence! ꕤ ̊⊹+ A blend of techniques was used in its creation, all to faithfully reproduce the delicate, iridescent quality of the butterfly's wing scales. Initially, the finalized butterfly shape felt incomplete... I almost decided to postpone it for later (My assistant exclaimed: "When is 'later'?! We've been looking forward to this for so long!" (rolling on the floor)). Alright, I had to keep trying! After countless failed attempts – I've lost count – it was finally just right! This is also why this new piece was delayed a bit.
