**Taiwan Blue Magpie**
The Taiwan Blue Magpie is an endemic bird species of Taiwan, characterized by two long, blue tail feathers. Records of this bird date back to the Qing Dynasty. In 1862, ornithologist John Gould published an article based on bird specimens from Taiwan sent by British naturalist Robert Swinhoe. In it, he named and detailed new Taiwanese species, including the Taiwan Blue Magpie.
Swinhoe once described: "Shortly after arriving in Tamsui, my hired hunter brought me two beautiful tail feathers from the mountains. I judged from the white spots at the tips of the bright blue feathers that this must be a new species of magpie. I offered a substantial reward for a specimen of this magpie, and finally confirmed my hypothesis: this was a beautiful new species."
**IUCN Status: Least Concern (LC)**
