This is a small French paper box from the early 20th century (circa 1900–1930). The lid features an illustration of a European Hoopoe, rendered in a style that follows the tradition of 18th–19th century natural history engravings. This design was later adapted for printing use between 1900 and 1930. The bird's posture is rendered with academic precision, and the lines possess a carved quality.
