[Woven Pattern] Front The Ichimatsu (checkered) and Karakusa (arabesque) patterns are beautifully arranged, with three colors – gray, ochre, and olive – in balance. The Ichimatsu pattern is a venerable design seen in Heian-period courtly designs as "Ishidatami" (paving stones), and it became widely popular in the mid-Edo period when the kabuki actor Sanogawa Ichimatsu favored it.
