Otto Schott founded the glass factory in Jena, Germany at the end of the 19th century. Initially, glass was produced primarily for laboratory use, with the first development of borosilicate glass in 1884, prized for its high heat resistance. Around the middle of the 20th century, Jenaer Glas expanded its business scope to domestic glass, with elegant and simple designs that became popular with families.
