The Italian Photocoloring Institute (Istituto Fotocromo Italiano), often abbreviated as IFI, was founded in Florence in 1928 by engineer Vincenzo Balocchi. Beyond his engineering pursuits, Balocchi was also a renowned amateur photographer and formerly served as the art director for the Fratelli Alinari company.
-
Today, IFI remains under the leadership of the same family that guided it from its inception. Every product carries an authentic Italian heritage, with all aspects—from the materials and design to the production and printing processes—completed in Italy. The paper itself is Italian art paper, chosen to perfectly express the colors of the prints while maintaining the rich, timeless artistic style characteristic of Italy and other European nations.
-
For IFI, their work is primarily directed by a wealth of nostalgic styles and local character. Their creations draw inspiration from diverse sources such as opera, cinema, advertising, architecture, and classic literature, offering a distinct and all-encompassing aesthetic. Through these images, we are invited to imagine the ambiance of a bygone era. If you find yourself captivated by medieval Europe, you may discover much to inspire you in IFI's collection.
