Original vessels created by ceramic artist Morishita Shingo.
The lid was created by woodworker Yasushi Shimizu to fit the container.
With this combination, a new "lidded container" was created.
This time we would like to introduce "Kodama Kototama."
The body of the vessel is made by refining Shigaraki soil and turning it into clay. The pattern is applied using a hammering board, a pottery technique. Ash glaze is applied and fired. Inside (the bottom) is the navel of the pot.
I used ryogan for the lid. When I saw this simple vessel, I tried to materialize the image that came to mind as a lid. I created three horn-like things extending upwards, varying their size and considering the direction they extended, to achieve a good overall balance. People who have seen my work have asked me what image I had in mind, but there is no specific one. Overall, it is a powerful piece, as if someone had breathed life into it.
As a vessel, as an object...
So how do you use this?
■Material: Container/Ceramics
Lid/Ryogan
■Size: Width approx. 320mm, depth approx. 250mm, height approx. 600mm
*The lid is finished with a natural oil. If moisture is left on it, it will stain, so be sure to wipe off any moisture as soon as possible.
Also, the lid is not airtight, so it is not suitable as a storage container for items that dislike moisture.
