Pattern Story This design is about the Mix-breed—or as we call it, the Mix. A being that’s one of a kind. At the riverside park, all the dogs are Mixes. You can’t tell their breed. They're just called Xiao Huang, Xiao Hua, Xiao Hei. Every tree and insect in the bushes is part of their world. Our family’s Mix was found by my dad, palm-sized at the time. She’s been with us sixteen years now. On days off, I take her for walks by the river. Those are my favorite dates. I love watching her wiggly walk, her eager steps. Crossing the flood wall is like entering her world— where every tree, every scent holds a story, as if the riverside is her real home. When you love a life, you want to remember every single detail— every pose, every place they’ve been. But memories fade. Eventually, all that’s left might just be a silhouette, or a flattened image in a photo. She’s 16 this year. I’ve started documenting her moments, the way she moves, where she goes. At this age, I’ve also started noticing that everything around me is aging too— my dog, my grandparents, my family. There’s no escaping the slow passing of the things we love. This design tries to hold on to that— a simple form that captures her honesty and ease. We’re all Mixes in some way. We don’t choose where we come from, but in the scattered pieces of reality, we try to hold on to who we are. And that makes us all Mixes, too.
