"In this city where time stands still, I explored between decay and splendor, driving freely in vintage cars..."
A four-hour flight south from bustling New York, and arriving felt like stepping into a parallel dimension.
My first visit to Cuba began with a languid, tropical island glow filtering through the dimly lit airport terminal. The morning arrival wasn't smooth; I was first given a hard time by customs officers in short skirts, then spent considerable effort haggling for a ride to my guesthouse. As I dropped my backpack, I let out a sigh of pent-up frustration. Fortunately, the housekeeper immediately offered a glass of fresh papaya juice, offering some relief to my weary body and mind. After settling into my room, turning on the air conditioning, and taking a shower, I couldn't wait to head out with my camera.
The Havana afternoon in October was still bathed in bright sunlight. Everywhere I looked, I saw dilapidated buildings, bustling streets, a scene that was both exciting and overwhelming. Then, a gleaming, emerald-green vintage car glided past. The legendary magic of time frozen in place – I was finally experiencing it.
"Havana on the Streets," my intimate observation through the viewfinder of my camera, eyes, and heart, goes beyond the iconic cigars, rum, and vintage cars. I immersed myself in the local cuisine, art, and religious culture, interacting with Cubans who found joy amidst hardship, whose friendliness might hide a calculation. I visited iron-works-like gyms and even got a somewhat questionable haircut at "the Best" barbershop from a young man with tattoos.
Cuba, long subject to US economic sanctions, possesses a unique, isolated beauty. Wandering through Havana's streets, you deeply feel the city's blend of historical weariness and faded grandeur. The weathered streetscapes and lingering ornate carvings, in their very fragmentation, exude an intoxicating aura. This sense of "decayed beauty" is undoubtedly Havana's most enchanting aspect.

Misty Pink Illusion:
Using the colors of the Cuban flag – red, blue, and white – this design captures the faded elegance of Havana's unique streetscapes. This was also the first photo I took upon arrival, inviting you to step into the local daily life, where unexpected surprises await at every turn.
Classic Summer Green:
The yellow and green representing the Caribbean islands, paired with a classic 1950s red vintage car, are quintessential symbols of Havana. Against the backdrop of Spanish colonial architecture, it forms a scene that is both opulent and modern, realistic yet dreamlike.
