The artist carefully controls the thickness of each glaze application before firing at 1260°C. Over 20 hours of intense heat transform the piece in the kiln, allowing the glazes to shrink and flow, evoking the intricate patterns and fluid movement of a peacock's tail feathers. The challenge in its creation lies in the precise control of glaze thickness and the delicate adjustment of the temperature curve. If the glaze is too thin or the temperature insufficient, the signature peacock feather pattern will not emerge. Conversely, if the glaze is too thick or the temperature too high, it can flow onto the kiln shelf, potentially damaging both the cup and the shelf. Even ambient temperature fluctuations can influence the final outcome. Despite years of dedicated practice, mastering these subtle variations remains an ongoing pursuit, which is precisely what imbues each finished piece with its unique value.
