This special piece can transform from necklace to bracelet as well as earrings. It is entirely handmade from 108 silver beads and can be made into three different combinations; you can wear it as a necklace (with or without two dangling tassels), or even use the two tassels as earrings (a pair of silver earring studs is included). The earrings can also be purchased individually in a separate listing. The necklace can furthermore be transformed into a three-tiered bracelet.
The use of all silver elements is highly symbolical, as there are 108 prayers to be recited when making 3 circles around the pagoda, that represents the centre of social life in the Karen hill-tribe village where our jewelry is produced and 108 mala beads also be used as a guideline and support during mindfulness practice with the belief that mala made from pure silver enhances calmness and protection.Others detailed elements of this product comprised of:
-The 8 tassels = The Noble Eightfold Path concept (an awakened human being's strategy to enlightenment)
-The Chedi on top of tassel with three revolving beads where the top and bottom beads’ surfaces are rough and while those of the middle bead is smooth = The Middle Path that is unique to each and everyone of us (Buddhist view of life and attitudes that will create happiness for oneself and others)
-The eyes represent awaken inner self, seeing the internal beauty of mindfulness.
All parts, including the tiny beads used for the tassels, are handmade one by one and stringed through a meticulous and ancient process of silver bead making tradition, typical of Thai Karen hill tribe people. It is a laborious process that only few families still master in the northern Thai village in Lamphun province, which is where our workshop is located.
With our silver jewelry we aim to explore and share the process of mindfulness, dedication and perseverance that is incorporated in every item we produce. We would like to transmit these ideas to whoever will be wearing our jewelry as a reminder of conscientiousness during their everyday activities.
We believe that jewelry created in this way does more than just ''look good'', it also ''does good'' and gives back to the whole community, as the sales help preserve and keep alive the traditional arts and crafts of the Karen hill tribe people.
