What’s the difference? ✔︎ Bicolour patched with more than two of exquisite pure silk Kimono ✔︎ Pattern clash represented the way of Kimono coordinates since Kimono history began. ✔︎ Quality buttons selected thoroughly to be for UMUI BLACK LABEL This exclusive design is created with two of 60s vintage silk Kimonos, lightly ethereal silk Kimono with traditional beautiful auspicious patterns of Yukiwa and running water using gold, black, pale blue, grey and vermilion colour in nude pale pink for the main fabric. Crispy silk Tsumugi Kimono in Japan black with auspicious patterns of Seigaiha and Kikkou for the collar. A nice relaxed holiday vibe with an attitude. UMUI shirt has purposely no yoke at the back shoulder. The authentic Kimono has it’s own elegance of the split back from the collar to the bottom hem. That is a secret of the beautiful movement of the silk Kimono that always has the original sewing method of the back. We take off all the stitches of Kimono by hand to be one flat fabric, wash and iron the fabric, draw designs, sew to reborn the Kimono for UMUI. Please understand that there might be small defects, colour fade, holes, usually vintage garments have from a long storage. However it’s also the beauty and uniqueness of valuable aged treasures. UMUI team designs and the sewing is in charge of Machiko(79), over 50 years experienced local seamstresses. Her wisdom and high skill are the key of UMUI collection. She wouldn’t want to waste both fabric and history of Japanese artisan work of Kimono. She has a warm respect for vintage works and former Kimono seamstresses. Each item has her ingenious works in various corners of the items such as sleeves, front inner, collars, the pattern matching, balances and patch working. Those tiny efforts to save the material is her speciality. UMUI’ gift wrapping/box/packaging are all recyclable materials We aim to be human+eco-friendly for this project.
