Material Selection The cowhide currently used by "Cut Line" is all top-grade, high-oil, vegetable-tanned leather from Italy. As it is a natural material, and the tannery uses vegetable tanning, a process that causes minimal damage to the leather, the surface may inevitably have minor "scars," "wrinkles," or "veins." We do our best to avoid these during the cutting process or place them on less visible or non-stress-bearing parts of the product. 2. Pure Hand Stitching We do not use sewing machines for our products; all items are meticulously hand-stitched. Before stitching, special pricking irons are used to create the stitch holes in the leather, which is how we achieve the beautiful, wavy stitch effect, distinguishing it from machine stitching. Although this significantly increases production time, it is a crucial step where the leather artisan imbues the piece with soul and a gentle, tactile feel. 3. Hand Burnishing and Edge Finishing Before a piece is finished, the edges are carefully burnished and sealed. This is done to ensure the edges appear smooth, rounded, and natural. "Cut Line" employs its own unique edge-finishing method. First, sandpaper is used to repeatedly smooth any sharp edges. Then, an edge-finishing liquid is applied to create a flat surface, repeated 2-3 times. Finally, a layer of edge-finishing wax is applied, and the edges are repeatedly burnished with a polishing tool until they achieve a smooth finish. 4. Hand-Dyed Leather For our hand-dyed products, "Cut Line" currently uses imported Fiebing's leather alcohol dyes from the United States. To achieve a uniform and natural coloration, we begin by dampening the leather surface with water. Then, using a sponge, we apply the dye layer by layer, from light to dark, until the desired color is achieved. After drying, a color-setting agent is applied to enhance colorfastness. We also apply water to the leather surface to wipe away any surface dust and further even out the color. As the dyeing is done entirely by hand, there are subtle variations in color between each bag, making every piece unique.
