Thanapala is a beautiful small village near the Ganges River in northwestern Bangladesh. During the War of Independence in 1971, the village was turned into a battlefield, and many who participated in militia fighting were massacred. "Tanapara Swallows" was born to save the lives of women in crisis due to the effects of the 1971 War of Independence.
Profits earned through fair trade are used to pay for the running of a school that attends 320 children in the region.
Gini Ali, assistant director of Swallows, said that discrimination against women and lack of job opportunities are hindering the improvement of living standards in Bangladesh, so the project is run on the idea of this phenomenon.
