After the sewing machine became widely available, and during the era of the Great Depression, manufacturers began selling these goods in printed fabric bags to help brighten people's spirits. It is said that the success of the products often depended on the appeal of these patterns, which ranged from florals and animals to geometric designs. During that time, patchwork experienced a resurgence, and farm women would unstitch these feedsacks to repurpose them, transforming them into everything from household items to clothing. By the end of the 1950s, paper and plastic bags replaced fabric, meaning feedsacks are fabrics that date up to that era.
