Wei Series The Wei Series features cold drip coffee made from rare origins and varieties around the world. This time, we have selected Yemeni coffee beans from Manakha, Haraz, Sana'a Province (Natural Process) to craft our cold drip coffee. Yemen has played a pivotal role in coffee history, famously controlling coffee exports in ancient times. The word "Arabica" itself is derived from "Arab," highlighting coffee’s deep roots in the Arab and Islamic world. Coffee’s origin story is closely tied to this region, where, despite religious restrictions on alcohol and addictive substances, coffee became a culturally significant beverage. In 2018, we attended a cupping event in Taiwan hosted by the founder of Yemen Mokha Port. Hearing firsthand about the challenges and vibrancy of Yemeni coffee regions left a lasting impression-especially the cultural impact of living amid conflict. Yemeni coffee stood out for its unique spiced tea notes, gentle acidity, and richer body compared to Ethiopian coffees. After that event, we were inspired to introduce more Taiwanese coffee lovers to Yemeni coffee. In 2020, the largest genetic study in Yemeni coffee history led to the discovery of the Yemenia variety-a previously unknown mother population of Arabica, exclusive to Yemen. Yemenia coffees are celebrated for their exceptional cup quality, featuring spiced, mulled wine-like aromas and a smooth, lingering finish. Yemeni coffee is a nostalgic favorite for many veteran coffee drinkers, but less familiar to younger enthusiasts. We highly recommend everyone, especially the younger generation, to try it!
