This trip to Kyoto brought encounters with many wonderful people and things.
It not only allowed me to re-experience the essence of living mindfully but also to witness the ancient capital's dedication to preserving and innovating traditional culture and craftsmanship. What captured my heart at first sight were the coin purses meticulously crafted by a kimono artisan. Mr. Nakamura, a gentleman of quiet grace, has retired from his career as a kimono artisan but continues to design coin purses using the kimono fabrics he cherishes.
【Premium Kimono Tsumugi Series】
The spirit of lifelong dedication to craftsmanship is evident in every detail and material selection. This piece features Kyoto's exquisite "Kanoko Shibori" tie-dyeing. Named for its resemblance to a fawn's spots, the intricate manual dyeing process is exceptionally complex and refined, resulting in unique patterns and colors. Consequently, these pieces are exceptionally rare, to be cherished as a once-in-a-lifetime treasure.
Mr. Nakamura's coin purses stand apart from those made with synthetic fibers or common cotton. Even accessories should be of a quality that withstands scrutiny, akin to fine luxury goods. He shared, "Use it gently, and the texture will soften beautifully over time."
It's clear that Kyoto residents truly appreciate quality! It's no wonder they take such pride in their city. We are grateful to Mr. Nakamura for agreeing to specially craft a batch for us. I must admit, compared to the variety of coin purses available elsewhere, the initial price might seem less approachable. At first, I was simply drawn to its aesthetic, not fully considering the premium kimono fabric or the intricate clasp. But after receiving and using it, I understood. With every opening and closing, I find myself marveling, growing more fond of it each day. Anyone fortunate enough to own one will understand what an art-level coin purse truly is – it will undoubtedly inspire you to collect more!
