This triangular Burmese Yepo raw stone, with its stable, mountain-like form, symbolizes "the establishment of heaven and earth, and the unity of the three powers." In Feng Shui, it is believed to possess the power to stabilize a home and gather energy. Yepo is considered the most potent form of amber, nurtured over hundreds of millions of years. It is known to absorb negative energy and transform it into harmonious qi, aiding in calming the mind, cultivating character, and pacifying the spirit. Its black exterior and red interior signify "outward tranquility, inward prosperity," representing hidden strength and wisdom. Placed in a study or entryway, it can concentrate positive energy, safeguarding the prosperity of the household. This is an energetically significant gemstone with considerable collector's value.
Yepo is the finest among ambers, considered the most precious, symbolizing nobility and auspiciousness. Its value is said to be five times that of gold, historically making it a treasured item for officials, nobles, and the wealthy. It is used to craft prayer beads and carvings, serving as an optimal sacred object for Buddhist disciples and devotees during prayer and meditation. Burmese Yepo is characterized by its black appearance in natural light, but it reveals a red or deep red hue when illuminated. Under ultraviolet light, it exhibits a blue-green fluorescence. Even seasoned amber enthusiasts sometimes confuse Yepo with Blood Amber. Beyond examining internal inclusions and fluorescence, a highly effective technique can clearly distinguish between the two. Shine a strong flashlight directly onto the back of the Blood Amber or Yepo, then observe from the front. If a diffused light effect is observed, it is Blood Amber; if a concentrated light reaction is seen, it is Yepo.
Yepo is the most prized amber, and many merchants have only heard of it without ever seeing it due to its extreme rarity. Possessing a genuine piece of Yepo is a rare affinity. As Yepo symbolizes nobility and auspiciousness, it has historically been treasured by officials, nobles, and the wealthy. Its use in crafting prayer beads makes it the finest sacred object for Buddhist disciples and devotees during prayer and meditation. Yepo is the evolved form of Blood Amber, representing its deeper oxidation; it is the result of secondary oxidation of Blood Amber, thoroughly oxidized from the inside out. To some extent, it can be inferred that if a piece is Yepo, it should not exhibit "leaking gold" (a phenomenon where lighter amber colors are visible through polished surfaces). This is because Yepo is oxidized to its innermost core. Any piece that can be polished to reveal "leaking gold" is certainly not Yepo, but rather Blood Amber. (Blood Amber is generally an oxidized layer, with varying degrees of oxidation. When making spherical beads, rough amber must be cut into cubes. Blood Amber with a shallow oxidation layer, when made into a round bead, may reveal the golden amber body.)
When viewed vertically from the front, Yepo's surface is opaque black, a characteristic also found in black-skinned Blood Amber. The most intuitive way to differentiate Yepo from black-skinned Blood Amber is to shine a strong flashlight directly through the back of the amber and observe from the front. Yepo will exhibit a concentrated light reaction, where the red area seen from the front is almost the size of the flashlight's head. In contrast, when a black-skinned Blood Amber is illuminated from the back with a flashlight, the red light inside will appear diffused from the front, not concentrating to the size of the flashlight's head. If the flat surface is further polished, this diffusion effect becomes even more pronounced, making the entire amber body appear red. However, even if the Yepo surface is polished flat, the light will remain concentrated.
